One of the biggest challenges faced by councils is providing and maintaining essential physical infrastructure for their communities. This is an endless task that underpins the economic and social life of communities and any delays on this important work would only create a greater burden for the future.

Unlike the other levels of government, the value of local government’s assets – and the latest ABS figures put the written down value of our non-financial assets at more than $408 billion – greatly exceeds revenue ($42 billion).  This leaves the sector with an enormous challenge and the need to work in partnerships where possible – with each other regionally and with the other levels of government at every opportunity.

The challenge to extract greater value, and the partnerships councils need to create, are at the heart of ALGA’s National Local Roads and Transport Congress this year, from 6-8 November 2017 in Albany WA.

The Congress program features key Ministers and federal politicians as well as a range of experts. Registration is now open and you can register your attendance on the ALGA website.
