$17m boost for SA disaster resilience and risk reduction

South Australia’s Disaster Risk Reduction Grants Program has received new Commonwealth and State Government funding totalling $16.7 million.

The money is part of the Commonwealth and the SA Governments’ commitment under the National Partnership Agreement on Disaster Risk Reduction to reduce the risk and limit the impact of disasters on communities across the state.

Each government is contributing $8.352 million.

South Australia’s Minister for Emergency Services, Corey Wingard, said the funding will be used to support disaster risk reduction activities aligned to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework and relevant resilience-building activities identified under Stronger Together: SA’s Disaster Resilience Strategy.

Some grant funding will be allocated to key priorities identified in the Independent Review into the 2019-2020 Bushfires.

State agencies, local councils, businesses, NGOs, and volunteer organisations are also encouraged to apply for funding for projects that reduce disaster risk, increase community resilience, and provide sustainable community

Further information about the grants program and associated application processes will be available on the SA Fire and Emergency Services Commission website from 1 August.
