60 airports share $41m in Regional Airports Program funding

Sixty regional airports will receive a share of $41.2 million in federal funding to help the aviation industry recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack announced funding for the projects this week under round 1 of the Regional Airports Program.

They include $4.5 million for a project to extend the runway at Merimbula airport (owned by the Bega Valley Shire Council) and $5 million for a runway upgrade project at the Ballarat Airport (owned by the Ballarat City Council),

The Upper Hunter Shire Council will receive $3 million for a runway resealing and reconstruction project at the Scone airport.

In its 2019-20 Budget, the Federal Government committed $100 million over four years to help regional airport owners deliver safer runways, taxiways, and other safety upgrades such as new fencing and safety equipment.
