$7.3m in new federal money for driver reviver site upgrades

Federal funding of $7.3 million has been announced for upgrades of Driver Reviver sites, including shelters, picnic tables, power and water facilities, barbecues, parking, and lighting.

All site owners, including state and local governments, are being encouraged to submit applications for Round 2 of the Driver Reviver Upgrade Program.

The Driver Reviver scheme is now its fourth decade of operation, with around 190 sites across the country providing drivers and their passengers a place where they can stop safely, particularly on long trips and during peak holiday periods.

The sites are managed and staffed by volunteers from community organisations and groups.
