Artists across Australia who are from asylum seeker or refugee backgrounds are encouraged to apply to the City of Greater Dandenong’s 5th annual HOME national arts program which culminates with an exhibition in July.
The organisers of HOME say the program is aimed at recognising and nurturing artists and they encourage work around the themes of home and identity.
Artists will be able to attend a series of master classes and professional development training and get paired with established artists.
Melbourne-based artist and designer, Zahra Ali, entered HOME for the first time in 2019 and created a recycled wooden chest she made with her mother, Saba Hakim, who arrived in Australia as a refugee.
“Home was a wonderful opportunity to grow and expand as an artist,” Zahra recalled.
“It introduced us to people of varying backgrounds and experiences while allowing us to tell our stories through what we love best; art.”
Applications close on 10 February. Click here for further details including an application form.
