Transport infrastructure managers are being encouraged to take part in an online survey to assess the impact of utilities on local roads.
With roads increasingly congested by overhead transmission lines and underground services, Austroads has begun a project to reduce the negative impacts of these assets on the delivery of transport infrastructure projects, while ensuring they continue to deliver essential public services.
Working with Fivenines Consulting, Austroads is beginning the project by developing a better understanding of how local road and transport projects have been affected by utilities.
These impacts include cost overruns (or conversely, underspends) and project delays following the discovery of sub-surface assets when planning local road upgrades.
To that end, a survey has been built to enable local government asset owners – and state and territory local government associations – to raise issues and problems they have experienced with utilities and local roads.
Surveys have also been built for utility providers, and road and rail managers. The results will provide an evidence base to substantiate issues, highlight areas for change, and identify practical solutions to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Survey responses have been requested by Tuesday 30 November, with findings to be published towards the end of 2022.
