Building inspector registration plan opened for consultations

A draft national registration framework for private building surveyors and other building industry practitioners has gone on public exhibition.

The draft was developed in response to the recommendations of the Building Confidence report of February 2018 which addressed a succession of building failures and apartment tower fires exacerbated by flammable cladding.

The report advised that, among other things, there be “a focus on collaboration between state and local government and (where applicable) private building surveyors to improve regulatory oversight” and that governments work towards a nationally consistent approach to registering certain categories of building practitioners.

To enable feedback on these two recommendations (which the Building Ministers’ Forum will consider in due course), the Australian Building Codes Board has published a discussion paper.

Recognising the complexity of the topics – and to elicit a wide range of responses – the ABBC is accepting feedback up until 23 August.
