The National Library of Australia is calling for applications to the 2019 Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program. The program provides grants of up to $15,000 to community groups to help preserve and manage locally-held but nationally-significant cultural heritage collections.
These collections include a range of materials from archival records, oral histories and textiles through to paintings, drawings, photographs and objects.
Projects funded under the CHG program include significance assessments, preservation needs assessments, conservation activities, collection management and training workshops.
Grants are provided to community organisations such as libraries, archives, museums, indigenous and multicultural groups, genealogical and historical societies from inner cities to the most remote parts of Australia.
Dr Marie-Louise Ayres, Director-General of the National Library of Australia, said: “These grants assist community heritage groups to carry out the work required to document, preserve and provide access to these collections through expert guidance and financial assistance.
“First-time recipients are invited to Canberra to receive their grant and enhance their skills and knowledge which they can take back to their communities.”
The National Library manages the Community Heritage Grants Program—which is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Communications and the Arts— with the National Archives of Australia, the National Film and Sound Archive and the National Museum of Australia.
Applications close at 5pm on Monday 6 May 2019.
