Scoping the need
The Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) is developing a register of potential community infrastructure projects around Australia.
ALGA will draw on this register in building the evidence base to strengthen the case for a Commonwealth funding program to assist councils to undertake vital projects to meet community needs.
We need your help. To demonstrate the strong need for Commonwealth funding the register needs to contain at least 3 projects from every council in Australia.

In 2007 ALGA commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers to undertake a study into the financial sustainability of local government. One of the key recommendations from this report was a proposal to establish a federal government ‘community infrastructure initiative’. An ideas register was developed to assist ALGA in putting the case for support for such a program. In response to the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, the Government drew on ALGA advice and recognised the need to assist councils in meeting the costs of renewing ageing community infrastructure announcing $1 billion in funding for local government as part of the Economic Stimulus measures. Your input into the register will help to make the case for another similar funding program.
