COP26 curtain-raiser to focus on accelerating climate action

A virtual forum to advocate for greater local government climate action ahead of the United Nations Climate Conference (COP26) in Glasgow is being held this month.

The Australian Local Governments Accelerating Action at COP26 event is being co-hosted by the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA), ICLEI Oceania, and the Council of Capital City Lord Mayors (CCCLM).

The forum will give councils the chance to amplify calls for urgent action on climate change at the local and federal government levels based on findings in the 2021 Australian Local Government Climate Review and the State of Play: renewable energy leaders and losers report.

The event will explore the pathways for local governments to demonstrate their climate action commitment, including the COP26 Race to Zero campaign.

Participants will hear about Race to Zero and other avenues available that will highlight the strength of local government in delivering climate benefits and how these can be accelerated.

Local government elected officials and their administration, as well as other levels of government, interested organisations, and individuals are welcome to register for the event on Thursday 21 October 2021 at 4-5pm AEST.
