Covid-safe domestic freight movement protocol in place soon

The Freight Movement Code for the Domestic Border Controls – Freight Movement Protocol – will be implemented in the coming weeks.

The code will enable the states and territories to work together to enforce Covid-19 health measures so freight continues moving across states and territories. It will also enable contact tracing, the provision of personal protective equipment, and effective self-isolation for interstate freight operators.

The code was developed by Infrastructure and Transport Ministers and endorsed by National Cabinet on 24 July after approval by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee.

At a meeting last week attended by ALGA President David O’Loughlin, infrastructure and transport ministers applauded the steps industry has taken to introduce Covid-safe operating practices.

They said the code “will provide certainty for the freight industry and governments, whilst ensuring the enforcement of measures in a consistent and effective way”.
