An exposure draft Bill has been published as part of the Federal Government’s plan to make critical infrastructure assets more cyber-secure.
The Security Legislation Amendment (Critical Infrastructure) Bill 2020 seeks to amend the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 to implement an enhanced framework to “uplift the security and resilience of critical infrastructure”.
New regulations supporting the operation of the Bill’s assistance and cooperation measures have also been published.
Public submission on the exposure draft of the legislation and the accompanying regulations close on 27 November.
To further public engagement, the Department of Home Affairs will hold virtual town hall meetings from 12-19 November to help inform the public about the proposed amendments.
The Critical Infrastructure Centre, located within the Department of Home Affairs, is the agency that works with owners and operators to identify and manage the risks to critical infrastructure and systems.
