The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is retiring its Can I fly there? app and urges people download an approved one made by Google spinoff, Wing Aviation.
CASA will also allow industry and app developers to create their own apps within guidelines set by the authority.
The authority’s other goals include an upgrade site that lets users integrate with its proposed drone registration system; allow licenced operators to submit flight authorisation requests; and automated approvals to operate within three nautical miles of a controlled aerodrome, where safe to do so.
Wing Aviation is trialing a food-by-drone delivery business in Canberra’s northern suburbs.
