New social infrastructure strategy for QLD

The Queensland Government has released a new social infrastructure strategy, with which it aims to make better use of existing physical infrastructure and ensure new investments are more responsive to community needs.

The document defines “social infrastructure” as physical facilities and spaces across health, education and training, justice and public safety, arts, culture and recreation and social housing.

Several pilot projects will be created, including at Meadowbrook in the Brisbane’s south east corner that will support Logan Hospital better use the nearby Loganlea TAFE to create a health and education precinct.

A new Social Infrastructure Ministerial Committee will be formed to help prioritise specific investments, and may result in government departments and agencies agreeing to share facilities, mixed-use precincts or repurposing under utilised assets.
