NT infrastructure projects win Safer Communities funding

Twelve projects in the Northern Territory will receive a share of Round 5 funding from the Commonwealth’s Safer Communities Fund (NT stream) announced this week.

The NT stream is the result of a 2019 election commitment to deliver $4 million in security infrastructure specifically to community safety and security projects in the Top End.

Under the three streams of the Safer Communities Fund infrastructure stream, grants of between $10,000 and $1 million have been awarded to 89 projects enhancing safety and security at schools, pre-schools, and other community organisations. These projects, valued at $31 million, must be completed by 30 June 2023.

There are currently no funding rounds open.

In other NT funding news, airstrips servicing the remote communities of Palumpa, Borroloola and Belyuen Shire (Delissaville) will be upgraded under the Commonwealth’s Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program.

It follows the announcement on 26 June of $9 million in Remote Airstrip Upgrade Funding for 45 projects, including $2.3 million for projects in the Territory.
