Public warms to LG leadership during Covid-19’s first wave

Public perceptions of local government’s leadership for the greater good have risen during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, peaking at +11 in a recent survey.

The eight-week survey is the latest in a series conducted by Swinburne University of Technology researchers to gauge perceptions of the degree to which different institutions – including the government, public, private and not-for-profit sectors – show leadership for the greater good.

The results inform the Australian Leadership Index initiative, a publicly available tool designed to highlight government, industry, and NGO leadership on particular issues.

Beginning in 2019, the Swinburne researchers have surveyed a representative sample of 1000 people across Australia each quarter. A full year’s worth of data is now available on the Australian Leadership Index portal, along with the latest report.
