The Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) is developing a register of community infrastructure renewal projects that would be of benefit to your local community. The register will include projects such as upgrades, replacement and maintenance from councils around Australia.
ALGA will draw on this register in putting the case to the Commonwealth for a funding program to assist councils undertake vital projects to meet community needs as well as create local jobs and stimulate the local economy.
We want your help? Register your community infrastructure ideas with ALGA by completing the form below.
In 2007 ALGA commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers to undertake a study into the financial sustainability of local government. One of the key recommendations from this report was a proposal to establish a federal government 'community infrastructure initiative'. An ideas register was developed to assist ALGA in putting the case for support for such a program. In response to the Global Financial Crisis in 2008, the Government recognised the need to assist councils in meeting the costs of renewing ageing community infrastructure announcing $1.2 billion in funding for local government as part of the Economic Stimulus measures. It is hoped that your input into the register below will help to make the case for another similar funding program.
