Telecommunications in New Developments policy review

The Commonwealth’s Department of Communications and the Arts invites feedback from local councils and the wider community before 17 January 2020 as part of its review of the 2015 Telecommunications in New Developments policy.

Developers are currently responsible for installing telecommunications infrastructure in new developments, but this does not always occur.

The Department wants to know what is working well in the current policy and what can be reviewed or revised, including developer and carrier obligations, charges, and network and service standards.

The objective is to have any new policy in place in advance of 1 July 2020, to coincide with the scheduled completion of the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN), and in anticipation of the commencement of the new statutory infrastructure provider (SIP) regime.

Respondents can view an issues paper and send comments via the Department’s site or email them to new.developments@communications.gov.au.
