WA’s Shire of Exmouth in line for DRFA assistance

Disaster assistance has been made available to help communities in the Shire of Exmouth recover from damage caused by severe flooding in early June.

Assistance is being provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) to address significant flood damage to roads and infrastructure across the Exmouth area caused by 24 hours of torrential rain.

The disaster event also threatened life and property, with some travellers left stranded, and some residents cut off from the town centre due to fast-moving floodwaters and road damage.

The federal government is working with West Australian authorities to ensure the Shire of Exmouth recovers as quickly as possible from the floods.

In related news, the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) and Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) have been made available to an additional five local government areas in Victoria affected by the June storms and flooding.

They include Baw Baw, Cardinia, Mornington Peninsula, South Gippsland, and Wellington, and taking the total number of eligible LGAs to nine.

Information on disaster assistance is available on the Disaster Assist website.
